So what's Benarii?

Benarii Bakehouse is a London based, family-run home bakery, currently speciailising in SuperBrowned™ browned butter chunky cookies, and bespoke cake orders. We just want to make truly delicious cakes and cookies for everyone (and not those things where the baker just sticks 420kg of kinder bueno in some dough and calls it a day).

Our aim with Benarii is just to make a successful business really. One that can support us as a family, and support others in the long run.

Where does the name come from?

The name "Benarii" is a combination of its founders names, Abena & Richus Dominique. The I was originally there for extra pizzazz, but our kid, Isaiah can claim it as his. We always knew we'd name our son Isaiah, so maybe it was always his in a way. Richus is head baker and managing director of Benarii Ltd, so most of the stuff where there's a voice speaking is him (i.e. it's me speaking right now). My mum is also the one quoted on the boxes. Yes she really said that.

It's pronounced ben-nar-ree, not ben-nuree.

What is SuperBrowned Butter™, and why do you put a ™ on it?

It's basically just browned butter with an extra hit of browned milk solids added in. In our opinion, this strengthens toasty browned butter flavours and fragrance, adding a uniquely deep flavour to our cookies. The ™ is just branding to be honest. Did you know anyone can basically put that symbol on anything? That's what we in the business call a BenariiFact™ .

Why is your logo a cupcake? Shouldn't it be a cookie?

We're a bakery - plus our original idea of four orange squares on a blue background was taken.

The cupcake isn't just a cupcake either - his name is Melville, and he's named after the bug that Chuckie adopted in the Rugrats. Why Melville? Have you seen that episode? It's a formative memory.

The cookie would make more sense yes, but we picked the cupcake. Now we're attached to it and have it printed on all manner of merch and business stuff it's far too late to change it.
